Derby, Kansas - Derby, Kansas - Pamela Everhart, 78, passed away May 26, 2025 after an extended battle with cancer. She was born November 27, 1946 to Henry and Elizabeth Horn in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, the eldest of three children. The family moved to Derby in the early 1950s where her father worked for the Boeing Company as an aeronautical engineer, and Pamela attended school. She graduated from the Derby Senior High School in 1964, and received her BS degree in Psychology from Wichita State University and her Masters in Education from the University of South Florida. During the 1990s, she was a certified special education teacher at the Derby High School, helping students with behavioral disorders. She shared a special interest in paleontology with her husband, spending more than 30 years collecting and studying fossils from western Kansas. Together they donated many Kansas fossils to major museums and helped fund the Oceans of Kansas Fossil Prep Lab at the Sternberg Museum of Natural History, Hays, Kansas. Pamela served as receiving editor the Transactions of the Kansas Academy of Science journal from 2014 through the spring of 2021. Her interests included reading cooking, orchids, knitting and crocheting, and she loved her cats.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her sister, Barbara Horn. Pamela is survived by her husband, Michael; children, Christopher McVay, Catherine Barker, Matthew Everhart and Ryan Everhart; fourteen grandchildren; and her brother, Paul Horn, of Colorado Springs, CO.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
