Omer M. Smith 94, Omer M. Smith is now in the loving arms of the Lord. On January 4, 2017 Omer felt the peace that passes all understanding. He was always a loving and faithful husband to Margie, his wife of 68 years. His children remember him as the best of all fathers. Omer is survived by his wife and three children, Floyd (Nancy), Roger (Debby), Ronnie (Dena), eleven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Omer was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Ida Smith, and one brother, Daniel. Omer was born in Enid, OK in 1922, lived and grew up on a farm near Pond Creek, OK until they moved to a farm northwest of Winfield, KS on August 1, 1940 where they enjoyed many years of farming. After dating Margie, they married in 1948 and the farming life continued east of Geuda Springs, KS which included working another job at a nearby packing plant in Arkansas City. An unexpected illness occurred in the family in early 1953 culminating with the family moving to Phoenix, AZ in 1957. In the nine years there Omer worked at Reynolds Aluminum, Carnation Dairy, Borden’s, and Arden Farms. He always treated the family and neighborhood children to popsicles and a good variety of ice cream treats from his dairy jobs. In 1966, the family decided to move back to the Winfield area. A year later, they bought a 160 acre farm east of Oxford where Omer was back in his element. He and the family raised hogs, grew wheat & alfalfa, and had quite the vegetable garden and strawberry patch. During these farming years, Omer worked another full time job at General Electric as a mechanic rebuilding jet engines. A few years after retiring from GE, the farm was sold and they moved to a nice house east of Derby. Omer and Margie truly enjoyed some trips together to see the New England states in the fall, Hawaii, New Zealand, Australia & Alaska. They loved being with and always near family and friends. They sincerely appreciate all you all have done for them. Omer’s two main goals in life was to love his family and the Lord God Almighty. Omer was an active member in the church that Jesus Christ established so many years ago. Visitation: Friday from 1 to 8 pm with family present between 5 and 7 pm.
