Nyija was an avid reader and enjoyed gardening and working in the yard especially if it involved flowers and growing vegetables. She was also a huge sports fan who followed her son Joe from the age of 5 until he graduated in wrestling, baseball, and football. She never missed a match or game. She was also incredibly involved in the lives of her grandchildren and enjoyed watching them play sports over the years. Many hours were spent in the gym watching volleyball and basketball and outside watching baseball, soccer, and football. Even sick she wouldn't miss a game. During the 2-1A Regional baseball tournament she was able to sit in the car and watch her grandson and the Douglass Bulldogs win the 2025 Regional Title. Thanks to her niece, granddaughter and technology she watched the state tournament from her living room.
