Jane was born and raised on a farm in rural Kansas, near Independence. Hap and Jane met there and married June 13, 1946 at the Friends Church in Bolton, KS. They eventually ended up in Wichita then Derby, KS where they lived out their lives.
Jane and Hap loved to travel and visited many sites in the US and in countries around the world. Mom sometimes got Hap to do things he wasn't crazy about like the zip-line in Costa Rica or digging up cactus on trips through the desert or bringing home big rocks Jane found for their gardens! Alaska, Australia and Paris, France merited 2 visits each. They enjoyed many activities together over the years square dancing, tennis, walking, and gardening the most common. They helped to establish the Village Steppers square dance club in Derby.
Jane and Hap were charter members of Woodlawn UMC in Derby, helping to raise money and build the church in 1955. They remained active members through their deaths. Jane served as a volunteer at the church in a number of capacities including Church secretary and secretary for the Administrative board for several years. Jane was the first woman on the church Trustees committee, of which she was very proud. Jane, being an avid gardener, took charge of keeping the church flower beds weeded and planted every year until her kids grew up. 'She sewed choir robes and costumes for children's activities. Her 4 children were her helpers in all things she did. Jane was an office volunteer again from 2012 to 2022 while her daughter, Lois, was church secretary.
Other volunteer activities included delivering meals for Meals on Wheels in Derby, which she did for numerous years. She was a Pink Lady volunteer at Wesley Hospital for over 30 years her duties including delivering mail within the hospital and helping to admit/dismiss patients.
Jane was very creative and her family benefited from this skill in many ways with a beautiful home, handstitched clothes, afghans just to name a few things. Jane took up oil painting in the 70's and the family has enjoyed her paintings in their own homes and in hers for years.
Always independent, wise, loving, generous, funny and sometimes a bit "sassy" Jane will be missed by all who knew her.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Woodlawn UMC, Derby KS.
