Neva May (Mahoney)Nixon, died Wednesday, March 25, 2015 at the age of 103. She was born in Argentine, KS in 1912. Her family moved to Emporia, KS where she graduated from high school. She then moved to Wichita for her career in the business world. In 1940, she and Joseph Merlin Nixon were united in marriage. They remained in Wichita except for the years during his military service. Neva was active in the Knife and Fork Club, Hypatia, and the P.T.A., and attended the Presbyterian Church. In 1952, the family moved to the Joe Nixon family farm in Belle Plaine, KS. During this time, she continued her business career by working at the Belle Plaine Telephone Co. She was the business manager of the Nixon family Farmer’s Elevator, owner and manager of the Valley Mobile Home Park and was active with the Nixon pecan and fruit orchards. While living in Belle Plaine, she was a member of the Presbyterian Church, MOA (Military Officer’s Association of America), P.T.A. and the Stitch and Chatter Club. Neva was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Merlin Nixon. Survivors include her daughters, Valerie Lawrence and husband Vince, Marilyn Lane and husband Sid; grandchildren, Megan West and Alex Lane; step-grandchildren, Maria Murphy and Vince Lawrence, Jr; 9 great-grandchildren. Viewing: 2-8pm Monday, Smith Mortuary, 501 SE Louis Blvd, Mulvane. Funeral service: 10am Tuesday, March 31, 2015, also at the mortuary. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Heartland Hospice. The family appreciates the loving care given to Neva by the Maria Court staff and her longtime friend, Jayne Clark.
