Nettie Carpenter

January 17, 1911 — February 6, 2013

DERBY – Carpenter, Annettie (Nettie), 102, peacefully passed away on Feb. 6, 2013 at Derby Health and Rehab. Nettie was a devoted homemaker, beloved by friends and family. She was a wonderful cook and well known for her homemade chicken and noodles. Preceded in death by husband of 66 years, Roy in 1998; an infant son, Milton Dean; grandson Kurt Carpenter; three brothers and two sisters. Survivors include daughter Colene (Gary) Read; son Don (Vicki) Carpenter; son Dennis (Marilyn) Carpenter; grandchildren: Mike (Lucie) Read; Doug (Wendy) Read; Steve (Lori) Read; Ryan (Tammy) Carpenter; Cara (Bryan) Rapp; Chad (Kelly) Carpenter and 20 great grandchildren. Nettie, the eldest of six children, was born January 17, 1911, in Smith Center, KS to Randall & Elizabeth (Metcalf) Moore. On April 24, 1932 she married Roy Carpenter in Smith Center. They struggled through the Great Depression and Nettie kept the home fires burning while Roy served in the Navy during WWII from 1944-46. After Roy came home they made their home in Osawatomie where they lived in the same house for over 50 years. They always welcomed friends and family into their home. Graveside service will be at the Osawatomie Cemetery at 11:00 AM on Saturday February 9th. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established with the First Presbyterian Church; 344 Main, Osawatomie, KS 66064.
