Naomi Taylor

Naomi Fairchild Taylor passed away on September 15, 2019 at 1:10 PM at the Kansas Masonic Home. She was born March 16, 1919 in Fredonia, Wilson County, Kansas to Frederick Allen Fairchild and Clara Mae Miller Fairchild. She was the 6th of a family of seven siblings: Wauneta Alexander, Maurice Fairchild, Kenneth Fairchild, Maurine Pfeifer, Helen Johnson, Francis Bowlin, all of whom she outlived. She is survived by sons Harry J. III, and Deborah Scott Taylor, and Robert A. Taylor and wife Sally Blasi, and 7 grandchildren Sarah Taylor Bryant and her husband Robert O, Christina Taylor Hedden and her husband Joshua C Hedden, Jason S. Taylor, Karyn Taylor Shorter and husband Joshua Shorter, Captains Jon and Emily Taylor, Benjamin and Madison Taylor, and Julia Taylor and 8 great grandchildren Taylor Bryant, Carter Bryant, Quinton Bryant, Reagan Shorter, Madison Shorter, Taylor Shorter, Kanaan Taylor, Luke Taylor and numerous nieces and nephews spread across the US and Canada. She lived near New Albany KS during her very early grade-school years and moved to Fredonia, KS for the remainder of her school years graduating from Fredonia High School in 1938. After high school she began work as a telephone operator for the McCray Phone company, and while there she met her future husband Harry J Taylor Jr who was working in town at the Frisco Railroad. They married June 22, 1941. During World War II she worked as a phone operator, and rate clerk for Southwestern Bell in Joplin, MO, while Harry Jr served in Persian Gulf Command as a Railroad Dispatcher in Iran. She lived with her family in cities along the western division of the Frisco Railroad including Augusta, Fredonia, and Neodesha KS, Joplin, Springfield and Carthage MO, living and retiring in Carthage since 1958, until she moved to Wichita in 2014 to take up residence at the Masonic Home. Naomi loved sewing, cooking, art and music and she encouraged everyone around her to pursue those interests. She was President of the ladies Auxiliary of the VFW at Augusta, KS. During her second career after Harry Jr’s early death at 49, she managed a greeting card and camera store before retiring at 62.
