Michael Raymond Young age 77, of Wichita, KS, died on the 27th of January 2022 due to Post Polio Syndrome, complicated by pneumonia. He is survived by his loving wife, Vicki (Bower) Young (m. 10/29/16); three sons, Matthew Young, Alexander Young and Daniel Young; grandchildren Kristina Young, Andrea Nguyen, Jordan Nguyen, and his brother Gordon Young.
Michael was born 21 August 1944 in Detroit, MI to John and Louise (Second) Young. He attended Kindergarten at Greenfield Union Elementary School in Detroit, Oakland Elementary School in Royal Oak, St Benedicts (Middle) School in Highland Park and Cass Technical High School in Detroit where he graduated in 1962.
Michael earned his Bachelors (1968), Masters (1969) and Doctorate (1972) Degrees in Engineering from the University of Detroit, MI. His thesis was titled, Industrial Truck Stability: Development of the Overload Control Valve. Michael was a member of Theta Tau social fraternity, Tau Beta Pi honorary engineering fraternity and Pi Tau Sigma honorary mechanical engineering fraternity.
During his lifetime Michael lived in Detroit, Royal Oak, Ferndale, Farmington and Brighton, MI, Tennessee, York, PA and Wichita, KS.
His formal employment history included: Food Fair Markets (Produce), Water Sports Distributing Co. (Sales), Dunn’s Camera (Sales), Cadillac Gage (Co-op Engineering), Eaton Corp. Eng. And Research Center (Engineer, Supervisor and Chief Engineer), Rockwell Int’l Automotive Operations (Director of P&D), Bristol Compressors (Vice President of Eng. & QC, President, CEO and Chairman of the BOD), Evcon Industries (President, CEO and Chairman of the BOD) and York Int’l (President, COO, CEO and Chairman of the BOD).
Michael traveled extensively for work and pleasure. He visited more than 100 countries and all 50 United States. During his life, he focused on creative endeavors that produced 23 patent awards. One of his great passions was recording music; gifting his wife Vicki with music CDs of songs they both loved. His later life was spent improving and enjoying the fruits of his labors. Michael re-designed and converted his Grain Silo into a viewing deck where he and his loved ones enjoyed beautiful sunsets. Throughout his life, business and personal, he was primarily concerned with the wellbeing of others.
Michael is the author of a book titled, Lost Along the Way – Michael Raymond Young – Life, Loves, CEOs & LBOs, published 2017.
In keeping with his wishes there will be no memorial service or gathering outside of the immediate family.
