Michael Joe Wakefield

Michael “Mike” Wakefield, 57, loving husband, father, and grandfather, passed away April 4, 2016. He was born May 26, 1958 in Roseburg, OR to Orville Joe and Neva Maxine (Hill) Wakefield. Mike retired from Spirit Aerosystems after 35 years in the aircraft industry. He enjoyed traveling, whether it was the open road on his motorcycle, visiting lakes to go boating, or venturing to Mexico with his family. His smile could light up a room and he was loved by many. He was preceded in death by his parents. Mike is survived by his wife of 22 years, Cherie Wakefield; children, Jason Wakefield, Derek (Lynn Womack) Wakefield, Danay (Tony) Brown, and Erica Barber; grandchildren, Jayden, Journey, and Jamison Brown; sisters, Cinda (Mark) Barnett, Janet (Wayne) Chapman, and Winona (Tom) Peoples; beloved fur-babies; and a large extended family. Visitation: Thursday, 1 to 8 pm with family present between 5 and 7 pm at Smith Family Mortuary, 1415 N. Rock Rd., Derby, KS 67037. Funeral: 1 pm, Friday, April 8, 2016 at Life Church, 338 N. 127th St. E., Wichita, KS 67230. Interment to follow at Douglass Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to K-9 Karma.
