Michael William Pokorney

Michael William Pokorney went to his heavenly home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on August 31, 2026. He was surrounded by his loving family at the time of his passing. He was born to Charles and Velma (Stickney) Pokorney in his grandmother's house in Ravenna, Nebraska on January 28, 1944.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, William Pokorney; and sister, Marcia Huff.

He is survived by his loving wife, of 62 years, Charlotte (Johnson) Pokorney of the home; sister, Jennie McCabe of Lakeland, FL; his two daughters, Lorrieann (William) Unruh of Honolulu, HI and Christal (Edward) Chrisco, of Arlington, TX; five grandchildren, Monroe (Noely) Chrisco, Christopher Unruh, Ravhanna Chrisco, Savhanna Chrisco, and Megan Unruh; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mike was a machinist at Boeing Aircraft Company and a long-time resident of the City of Haysville, Kansas. He was an active member of the Haysville United Methodist Church and a brother at Haysville Lodge of the Free and Accepted Masons. Mike served in the Army during the Vietnam War and was stationed in Alaska. He loved the outdoors, fishing, camping, and traveling. He was a skilled woodworker and made many furniture items for his family and friends. He loved to cook and to make sausages, a skill he learned from his father with their work at the family meat market. He loved his family and friends. Mike will be missed by many but will sit by the Lord at the mansion prepared for him by the Lord Jesus Christ.

A visitation will be held from 5-7 pm on Thursday, September 3, 2026 at Smith Family Mortuary, 7031 S. Broadway Haysville, Kansas 67060. Funeral service is 2:00 pm on Friday, September 4, 2026, at Haysville United Methodist Church, 601 E. Grand Ave., Haysville, Kansas 67060.

Memorials may be given to Haysville United Methodist Church in honor of Mike.
