Merita Arlynn Reed

November 19, 1937 — February 25, 2024

Merita A Reed was born November 19,1937 in Peck, KS, and passed peacefully in Mulvane, KS, February 25, 2024, at 86 years of age. Merita graduated from Mulvane with the class of 1955, then in later years attended Wichita State University obtaining a bachelor’s degree in education and a master’s degree in geology. She was a retired schoolteacher having taught science and math at Kapaun Mt. Carmel and Augusta Middle School for a total of 22 years.


Merita was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years Don Reed with whom she enjoyed traveling, camping and collecting antiques, friends and memories. Merita was an avid reader and loved gardening. Also preceding Merita were parents, Elbert and Wilma McGee of Wichita; brothers, Karell McGee of Fredonia, KS, Ken McGee of Wichita and sister, Virginia Bridges of Grove, OK.


Merita is survived by son, Jeff (Carol) Reed of Mulvane, daughters, Cyndi Beckman (Keith) of Derby, KS, Sheri Faissal of Wichita and Terri Reed of Wichita. Merita was blessed with eight grandchildren, Jeremiah (Jess) Reed, Amber (Steve) Jansen, Chris (Jamie) Reed, Megan (Dan) MacKay, Zachary (Candice) Reed, Michelle (Chris) Payne, Emily Beckman and Enzo Faissal. Further blessings include twenty great grandchildren, two great- great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews and their respective children.


Visitation: Thursday February 29, from 5:00 to 7:00pm. Funeral Service: 1:00 pm, Friday, March 1st, 2024 both at Smith Family Mortuary, 1415 N. Rock Rd, Derby, KS, 67037. Interment to follow at Porter Cemetery
