Loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Melvin Lee Hartley passed away Sunday, June 6, 2021, at age 61. The viewing will take place Friday, June 11th from 1pm to 8 pm at Smith Mortuary in Mulvane, Kansas. There will be a graveside Memorial Service at Saint Boniface Cemetery in Sharon, Kansas, Saturday, June 12th at 2 pm.
Melvin is survived by his wife, Rebecca, their children Alicia (Jason), Christal (John), Racheal (Matt), and Austin, as well as many loving grandkids; Destaney, Grace, Jack, Sam, Zander, Nolan, and Ava.
Melvin was born February 16th in Garden Grove, California to Mitchell and Rosine. He moved to Oklahoma at the age of four, where he lived most of his adult life. He moved to Wichita, Kansas in 2000, becoming head of security at the Kansas Coliseum where he met the love of his life, Rebecca. Melvin and Rebecca built a wonderful adventurous life together, courageously opening their very own store, Fun Finds.
They enjoyed traveling, visiting 41 states, and riding trails in 18 of those states. Their adventures did not stop there. They also went on many missionary trips. Honduras was their first heart touching missionary experience where they started building a church. During their missionary trip to Galapagos Island, Rebecca says she will never forget the boat ride they shared. Laughing, Rebecca recalls the tiny bunkbeds they slept in while in Argentina. Their last missionary trip was to El Salvador where they worked on building classrooms for a school.
Melvin loved taking family and friends out to play on the jet ski, four-wheelers, motorcycle, and RZR. He enjoyed terrorizing the kids and grandkids on the RZR, saying the louder they screamed, the faster he went and the louder he laughed. His laugh and smile were truly contagious and welcoming. Melvin deeply impacted many lives and will truly be missed.
