Mary Clara Pinick

November 13, 1926 — March 12, 2014

Mary Clara Pinick (Yonning) was born on a farm north of Wamego, KS on November 13, 1926. She was the third child of Louis George and Agnes Isabelle (Hunholz) Yonning. Mary spent her early life in the Broadrick, Glendale, Flint Rock and Greenwood communities north of Wamego. She attended Wamego High School and graduated in 1944. Shortly thereafter she married James Pinick Jr. on November 26, 1946. James Pinick preceded her in death on November 9, 1997. After graduation from high school Mary worked for Harmony Gardens and at Glenn’s Dimestore in Wamego. She was a homemaker while raising three boys. During that time, she (along with James) was quite active in each son’s activities as den mother, home room mother and countless other leadership roles. After the boys were older she entered back into the work force at various retail shops, for Goodwill Industries and eventually working for 12 years for Geneva Generics/Cord Laboratories in Broomfield, CO, until she retired in 1984. Mary was a member the Rose Hill Christian Church of Rose Hill, KS. Mary is survived by three sons, George Emerson Pinick (Joan), Bel Aire, KS; Darrell Eugene Pinick, Douglass, KS and Steven James Pinick (Mary), Chanhassen, MN. granddaughters, Julie Lange (Dave), Wichita, KS; Elise Pinick and Caitlin Pinick; Chanhassen, MN, grandsons, Richard Pinick (Michelle), Rhome, TX; Ryan Pinick (Becky), Derby, KS and Myles Pinick, Rose Hill, KS; one sister, Vera Beth Clark, Onaga, KS; one brother, Dee Ray Yonning (Mary Jane), Wamego, KS; two sisters-in-law, Faye Yonning, St. Joseph, MO, Marylin Yonning, Topeka, KS, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Evelyn Yonning and Ruby Julien/Cotton/Breymeyer; three brothers, James, Earl and George Yonning; two brothers-in-law, Lawrence Clark, Frank Cotton and one sister-in-law, Norma Yonning. Mary will lie in state at the Smith Mortuary of Derby, KS (1415 N. Rock Road) on Friday, March 14, 2014 from 1pm through 8 pm. Funeral services will be at the Rose Hill Christian Church of Rose Hill, KS, 2 PM Saturday, March 15, 2014, with burial following, next to her beloved husband, James, at Rose Hill Cemetery. A dinner and family visitation will be held afterwards at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Rose Hill Christian Church of Rose Hill, or Good Shepherd Hospice.
