Mary Elizabeth Garst

Mary Elizabeth Garst, age 96, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother died Tuesday, March 28, 2017. Visitation: Monday 4-8 pm with family receiving friends from 6-7 pm. Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 4th, both at Culbertson-Smith Mortuary, 115 S. Seneca. Burial immediately following at Highland Cemetery. Mary is preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Dale Garst; and her brothers Eugene and George Levance Jr..Survivors include son, John Garst and wife Mary Jo of Alamogordo, N.M.; daughter, Janet Bernstein and husband Joe of Sherman Oaks, Calif; grandchildren, Robert and Diane Garst, Jacob, Jenny, Jeremiah, Joshua, Judah, and Gabriella Bernstein and their spouses, as well as nine great-grandchildren. Mary grew up and raised her own family in the Riverside neighborhood of Wichita. Mary operated a comptometer during her careers at Beech Airlines and Santa Fe Trucking Company and owned a farm with Dale following retirement. She was a longtime member of the women’s social, cultural and service organization Beta Sigma Phi. She and Dale were longtime members of the First Church of the Bretheren in Wichita where their contributions continue to be treasured. Mary will be remembered for sharing her beautiful smile, joyful heart, and sense of adventure with her family and countless friends.
