Mary Madeline Burchardt

May 29, 1943 — Sep 12, 2026

Mulvane

Mary Burchardt, 83, passed away on Saturday, September 12, 2026. She was born May 29, 1943 to Antonio and Santos (Flores) Martinez in Hutchinson, Kansas.

Above all else, Mary found her greatest happiness in her family and in the simple, meaningful moments they shared. She was a deeply thoughtful and generous person-a trip to the store was never just about shopping, as she could never pass up an item if it reminded her of someone she loved. Her hands were rarely still; she took immense joy in crocheting, crafting countless soft baby blankets and heartfelt gifts for family and friends. While she loved going fishing, she was content just being outdoors holding a fishing pole even if she never got a nibble. It was always about who she was with rather than what she was doing.

Mary held family history and remembrance close to her heart, making it a sacred tradition every Memorial Day to visit the graves of loved ones to lay flowers and spend treasured time catching up with family in Hutchinson. She also eagerly anticipated the Kansas State Fair each year, delighting in the sights, the crowds, and especially the hunt for free tote bags and pens-meaning if you ever needed a pen, Mary was guaranteed to have one ready for you. Her warmth, generosity, and playful spirit will be deeply missed.

Preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ed; siblings, Manual Martinez, Robert Armijo and Rafaila Sealover.

Survivors include her three children, Valley Bell and husband, Henry; Granville Burchardt and wife, Deb; and F. Anthony Burchardt and his husband, Fred; grandchildren, Henry, Anna, Ashley, Christopher (Michelle), Kelly (Eric); great grandchildren, Abigail, Isabelle, Addison, and Lucas; siblings, Jim (Gloria) Martinez, Lucy (Thomas) Taylor, John (Rose) Martinez, Tony (Sohpie), Martinez, Jr., Micki (Paul) Beeson, Ed Armijo, Nora (Gary) Sweigert, and Vicki (Dominic) Flores.
