Marvin Roy Jones was born in Meeker, Colorado on June 7, 1928, to Homer and Eveleth Jones.
He enlisted in the Army, and at the age of 20 was inducted into service in November 1948, at Fort Riley, Kansas. After three months of training at Fort Riley, he was deployed to Japan and Korea. It was during the fighting in Korea that he was seriously wounded on July 1, 1951. Marvin received his discharge papers May 6, 1953, at Fort Carson, Colorado having attained the rank of Corporal. He earned two Purple Hearts and many other medals.
After his service, he met Norma Gregory in Wichita, Kansas. They were married on the Gregory family farm in 1954. Norma and Marvin were happily married for 69 years. They enjoyed camping, fishing, and traveling. They built a cabin together in Colorado with the help of their son Bryon. In their younger days they spent much time at the Gregory farm, and spending time with family and friends.
Marvin passed away peacefully with his wife at his bedside in their home in Mulvane on January 28, 2024.
Marvin was preceded in death by his parents Homer and Eveleth Jones, his two brothers and two sisters, his son Bryon, and one granddaughter.
Marvin is survived by his wife Norma (Gregory) Jones of Mulvane, daughters June (David) Hurst and Karen McHenry and daughter- in-law Kim Jones. He has five grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
Visitation 4-8pm Thursday, February 1, with Funeral services 2pm Friday, February 2, all at Smith Mortuary in Mulvane. Military honors by the United States Army will be conducted at the Mulvane Cemetery. A memorial has been established with the Disabled American Veterans, 5500 E Kellogg Ave, Wichita, KS 67218.
