Rose Hill - Futhey, Marshall L.

98, one day short of 99, a World War II Veteran, lifetime farmer, tractor restorer and collector of all sorts of antiques, passed away Wednesday, December 1st, 2021. He was born December 2nd, 1922, at the family farm near Rose Hill, KS. He started school at age 5 and graduated from Rose Hill High School in 1940. After graduating, he helped his father wiring houses before electricity came in 1941. After that, he worked at Coleman Lamp and Stove Company as a punch press operator. Until drafted in the Army in 1944, serving at Ft. Bliss, Texas and the Philippine Islands. He married Thelma Garnett in December of 1943. Upon returning from the Army, he went back to Coleman Lamp and Stove Company until August 1947. Marshall began farming and ran a dairy farm until 1973. He also did custom hay bailing and later went into collecting antiques and restoring tractors. He was a member of several clubs: Kansas & Oklahoma Steam & Gas Association, Kansas Chapter #3 IHC Collector Association, V.F.W. Post 1254 Ark City, Andover American Legion 406, Rose Hill Senior Citizen, Rose Hill United Methodist Church all his life, and the Rose Hill Historical Society. Marshall is proceeded in death by his wife and sweetheart, Thelma of 64 1/2 years; father Cecil (1979); mother, Evadne (1989), brother Paul (1936) and two loveable pets, Leo, and Buddy.

Survivors: Children, Joe (Debbie), Gail, and Louise (Mike) Leis, all of Rose Hill; two brothers, Marion of Rose Hill and Milton of Caldwell. Seven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and many relatives and a host of friends. Memorials have been established with K&O Steam and Gas Association, PO Box 969, Winfield KS 67156, IH Kansas Chapter #3, Ron Schmitt, 2300 Timber Creek, Derby KS 67037 and Rose Hill Historical Society, PO Box 36, Rose Hill KS 67133.


Visitation: Monday, December 6th, 2021, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Smith Mortuary - Derby, 1415 North Rock Road, Derby, Kansas 67037. Funeral Service: 10:00 am, Tuesday, December 7th, 2021 at Rose Hill United Methodist Church, 19551 SW Butler Rd Rose Hill, Kansas 67133. Interment to follow at Dunlap Cemetery.
