Mark W. Irvine

Belle Plaine – Mark W. Irvine, age 45, devoted and loving son, husband and daddy with a love for his family and the outdoors, passed away Monday, October 28, 2013.

Visitation 1- 8pm Friday with family present 5-8pm; funeral service 2:30pm Saturday, both at Smith Mortuary, 1415 N. Rock Rd., Derby.

Mark was born on March 13, 1968 in Newton, KS to Keith and Barbara Irvine. He grew up in Haysville, KS and attended Derby schools.

Mark earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice at WSU. Mark worked as a corrections officer with Sedgwick County. He has been an employee, primarily involved in the juvenile field, for the last 17 years. Mark grew up riding his bike and playing soccer. He grew to love the outdoors and all it had to offer. He shared that love with some close friends growing up. Mark developed a love for nature from his dad, Keith. They can plant and teach you about anything. He often spoke about playing with his cousins on the farm.

Mark married Carol Renee Main on October 12, 2002. They have two beautiful children. Ethan Perry Irvine, born June 12, 2005 and Ellyana Marie Irvine, born May 4, 2008. Mark and Carol loved to go to unique Bed and Breakfast locations surrounded by nature. Often times you would find the family hiking on their property. Mark would teach all he knew about the plants and trees and we would discuss our future dreams.

Mark and Ethan loved to sit at the creek and fish. Ethan soaked up Mark’s knowledge of nature and animals like a sponge. Ellyana brought out a different side of Mark. He learned how to and not to do her hair. Ellyana has her daddy’s love of reading. You would often find the family sitting on the couch reading books. Mark had a way with words and those that knew him always spoke of him as kind hearted and a true gentleman.

Mark was preceded in death by his mother, Barbara Irvine; grandparents, Olan and Effie Irvine, Perry and Elizabeth Rashleigh. He is survived by his wife, Carol Irvine and their children Ethan and Ellyana; father, Keith Irvine; along with several other family members. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established with the Irvine Children’s College Fund c/o Meritrust Bank, 1615 N. Rock Rd., Derby, KS 67037.
