Mandi Lee Morton

June 5, 1978 — September 17, 2015

Mandi Lee (Karlen) Morton was born June 5, 1978, on a stormy night, (which set the pattern and

matched her perfectly), in Aberdeen, South Dakota to Kent and Darlene Karlen. She attended school at

Lincoln Elementary, Simmons Jr. High and graduated from Aberdeen Central High School in 1996. She

attended Black Hills State in Rapid City, South Dakota but returned to Aberdeen to assist with the care of

her Grandmother, a hospice patient in her parent’s home. Mandi and Jason Morton met over the

Christmas Holidays in 1997, while Jason was serving in the Army in Killen, (Fort Hood) Texas. They

instantly fell in love and were married April 8, 1998. On Dec. 23, 1998 their son, Skieler, was born.

Skieler was her world. In 2000 her family and parents moved to Independence, KS. In 2003 the whole

family moved to Rose Hill, KS, where she lived in her dream home in the country. She loved the peaceful

life with horses, dogs and cats, and helping anyone she could. Mandi gave up the struggle of her health

on Sept. 17th in her sleep. Her survivors include her husband, Jason Morton, her son, Skieler, her parents,

Kent and Darlene Karlen, Jason’s parents, Mike and Robin Morton, Janice Smith, and Brenda

VanDeRostyne, her foster sister. She was proceeded in death by her maternal and paternal

Grandparents and Uncles and Aunts.

She is missed so much.

Knowing Mandi preferred more of a family setting, we will be celebrating her life with an open house at

Kent and Darlene’s home in Rose Hill on Friday, September 25, 2015, starting at 4:00 PM.
