Lucille Alice Kennard Klassen was born November 1, 1932 to Albert Levi and Ola Jesse Kennard near Peabody, Kansas. She had one sister, Ola Francis Kennard Kottwitz and one brother, Albert Keith Kennard. At age 9, her father was killed in a farming accident. She spent her childhood in the Peabody and Florence area, moving to Mulvane, Kansas with her mother in her early high school years, then moving to Wichita where she attended East High School.
On April 24, 1950 she was married to Donald Clare Klassen to which were born five girls, Kathy, Judy, Debbie, Rita and Wanda. Her many hobbies included caring for her cats, reading and various crafts.
She worked for Hillside Nursery part-time while the girls were in school. In the mid 1970's she went to work full-time at Kansas Blueprint, lettering maps, until her retirement. She lived in her home in Wichita until health issues caused her to move to the Kansas Masonic Home assisted living facility, and later into the full care facility
She loved the time spent with her 10 grandchildren, Kyle Avers, Jonette Avers Wallis, Curtis Norrick, Kristopher Morris, Robin Avers, Andie Norrick Williams, Angela Morris, Charles Roberts IV, Alesia Klassen and Jessica Avers Lindsley, and her 17 great-grandchildren
On February 23, 2014 she passed away after a long illness at the Kansas Masonic Home. She is preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Ola Kennard, siblings, Francis Kottwitz, Keith Kennard.
She will be greatly missed by her daughters, Kathryn Avers of Wellsville, Ks., Judith (Charles) Roberts of Riverview, Florida, Debra (Dennis) Morris, Rita Norrick and Wanda Klassen all of Derby, Kansas; 10 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
A memorial has been established with Harden Hospice of Kansas, 2622 W Central Ave, Ste 501, Wichita 67203 and Kansas Masonic Home, 401 S Seneca St, Wichita 67213.
