Lola Mae Cox

December 16, 1922 — February 3, 2018

Lola Mae Cox, formerly of Belle Plaine, KS, went to be with Jesus, Saturday, February 3, 2018 from Lake Point Skilled Nursing in El Dorado, KS at the age of 95. She was born on December 16, 1922 to Charles and Susie (Hoffman) Wilson on the family farm near Elk City, Kansas.

Graduating from Elk City High School, she later traveled by train to Wichita, where she worked as a shop clerk for Boeing Aircraft Co. She once commented to her children "I don't know how my parents let me get on that train to go to the big city!"

On October 30, 1944 Lola Mae and her high school sweetheart Warren Cox, were united in marriage at the Methodist parsonage in Longton, Kansas. When Warren returned from Army service in WWII, they settled on one of the Cox farms outside of Elk City. Having several years of flood ruined crops, they moved to Wichita, where Warren worked for Boeing Aircraft. In 1953, after visiting towns in the Wichita area, they moved their family to Belle Plaine. Lola Mae worked in the Hatfield Meat Locker, M&M Grocery, sold AVON, and cooked at the Paradise Valley Nursing Home. For many years, she coordinated funeral dinners at the Methodist Church.

Lola Mae and Warren were members of the Methodist Church, Paradise Swingers Square Dancers, Eastern Star, and the Do-Nothing Club. They traveled throughout the United States, often in their camper. After Warren's death, Lola Mae also joined Women's Club and Grandmother's Club and went on many Village Tours bus trips with friends. She enjoyed sewing, reading, playing cards, and gardening when she would be followed by various kitties through the years. She greatly loved her grandchildren and would have always have home-baked cookies available when they came to visit. She was known by come, outside of the family, as "the cookie lady"!

Lola Mae was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Cecil, Vernon, and Robert Wilson; her husband and infant daughter, Janice.

She is survived by son, Rick (Cathy); daughter, Jeannie (John) Gifford; grandchildren, Brian (Sonia) Cox, Jerod Cox (Arianne Garcia), Kristin (Mike) Kendrick; Jason (Stasi) Gifford, Lindsay (Aaron) Sanderholm; Abbey (Jeff) Garlach; gt. grandchildren, Kenzo and Cora Cox, Calvin Cox and Blanca Garcia, Derrick (Becca) Kendrick, Trent Kendrick, Zack Gifford, Maddilynn, Easton and Lilliann Sanderholm, Hannah, Sella and Jeffrey Garlach; gt. gt. granddaughter, Hadley Kendrick.
