Linda Jo Miller

Linda Jo (Shaw)Miller, 66, retired special education/reading arts teacher, passed away Saturday, August 1, 2015, after battling a long illness. She was born on February 8, 1949, in Hays, Kansas, the daughter of Melvin and Marilyn Shaw. She was the older of two children. Linda grew up in Oakley, Kansas, and graduated high school there in 1967. She went on to receive bachelor’s degrees in music education and music therapy, master’s degrees in special education and early childhood development, and a certification in K-12 reading arts. On June 30, 1978, she married Roger Miller of Udall, Kansas. They had two children. Linda was involved in multiple sports, community groups and organizations throughout her life. She also was an avid musician and thespian, and participated in many concerts and plays. Her favorite pastime was cheering on the University of Kansas’ men’s basketball team. Linda is preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include her husband, Roger (of the home); daughter Amber Koehn (Joel), Rose Hill, KS; son Shawn Miller (Danielle), Vail, CO; brother Kevin Shaw, Oakley, KS; and 4 granddaughters – Grace, Natalie, Madeline and Sydney Koehn, Rose Hill, KS. Memorials may be made to the Kansas Humane Society or the Rose Hill United Methodist Church Chancel Choir. The family will greet friends from 6-8pm Wednesday, Smith Mortuary, 1415 N. Rock Rd., Derby. Celebration of Life service: 10am Thursday, August 6, 2015, Rose Hill United Methodist Church, 19551 SW Butler Rd., Rose Hill.
