Leon Gaston, age 87, passed away June 1, 2025. He was born in Paris, Arkansas, the last of 6 children to Carl and Annie Gaston.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers James and Earl, sisters Mary Riley, Bertha Nesbitt and Lavern Brown, and one son, Michael Lee.
Survivors are his wife Ruby, son Carl Wesley (Melody), one granddaughter Kristina Hood (Eric), and nine great-grandchildren.
Leon attended school in Paris and came to Kansas in 1955 to work. He entered the military in 1960 and served two years. He returned to Kansas, married Ruby Cantwell in 1963 and they made Derby their home. They were married 61 years. Leon was employed by Beech/Raytheon for 37 years. After retirement he worked for Beech a few times doing contract work. He loved working outdoors, doing woodwork and other home improvement projects. He also enjoyed Cowboys and Razorback football teams and Gospel music concerts.
Visitation 5-7pm Wednesday, June 4, at Smith Mortuary in Derby. Funeral service 1pm Thursday, June 5, at Crossroads Baptist Church. A memorial has been established with Union Rescue mission’s funds.
