Lawrence Russell Stankiewicz, age 73, of Rose Hill, went to join his soul mate, June Patricia Stankiewicz, his wife of 43 years, in Heaven on Friday, September 26, 2014. A graveside memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, October 6, 2014 at Rose Hill Cemetery. Lawrence was born August 4, 1941 in Hoboken, NJ. He was a Vietnam Veteran and retired as a Master Sargent after serving in the USAF for 26 years. He also served on the police force at Wichita State University. Lawrence loved working on model airplanes and model trains and sharing his passion with his grandkids, but most of all he loved his wife. His life is now complete. He is preceded in death by his wife, June; parents, Casimer & Minnie Stankiewicz; brothers, Jimmy and Arthur; and a sister, Priscilla Stankiewicz Kaiser. Survivors include his son, Steve (Mary Jane), of Topeka; daughter, Lisa Chastain (Matt), of Edmond, OK; brothers, Fred (Phyllis), Ed (Jeanette) and Buddy (Kathy); grandchildren, Megan, Rachel, Mary Beth, Ryan and Nathan; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. In lieu of flowers, his grandkids would like to honor him by asking for donations to be given to Fisher House Foundation. It is a charity that offers housing to families of military in the hospital so families can be together.
