Larry Miller

February 19, 1934 — April 2, 2025

Lawrence “Larry” Miller of Derby, KS passed away on April 2, 2025, at the age of 91.

Larry was born on February 19, 1934, in Arkansas City, Kansas. He was the second child born to Francis Lorene Hughes and Wallace Orville Miller. Larry graduated from Springfield Senior High School (Class of 1952) in Springfield, Missouri, and went on to join the United States Marine Corp. Larry served his country with honor during the Korean War. His time in the Marines helped to not only shape his character, but also cultivated within him a strong love for country and service to others.

After his honorable discharge from the military, Larry pursued a career as a computer engineer, dedicating over 35 years to NCR. A lifelong learner, he valued education and continuously sought to expand his knowledge and skills through numerous college courses. His extensive career not only deepened his expertise but also provided him with some of his most cherished memories and experiences.

Those closest to him knew Larry to be charismatic, witty, and a man who valued the dignity and worth of all people. Larry was a family man. He loved his wife more than life itself. His children, grandchildren, and chosen family were his pride and joy. He took delight in being a safe haven for anyone who needed love and support.

He will be deeply missed by his wife of nearly 70 years, Nancy Miller; sister, Shirley Schwarz; his daughter, Lisa Miller-Brown (Doug); his grandchildren, Rhiannon Miller, Amanda Johnston-Plew (Alex), Jesse Miller (Kerry), James Cooper (Gwen); and great-grandchildren, Failyn, Cody, and Finn. Larry will be remembered by countless extended family members, friends, and “bonus kids”.

Larry was preceded in death by parents, Wallace and Francis Miller; older brother, Weldon Orville Miller; and his son, Lawrence Kevin Miller.
