LaVelle Deane Haefner

It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of LaVelle Haefner on July 17, 2026. LaVelle was born on June 10, 1943, in Lost Springs, Kansas, to his loving parents, Harold and Evelynn Haefner. Under the kind care at LakePoint in Augusta, Kansas, LaVelle departed this life, leaving behind a legacy of love, dedication, and service.

LaVelle’s life was a testament to commitment and hard work. After graduating from Circle High School in 1961, he answered the call to serve his country by joining the Navy. For three years, he diligently worked as a Machinist Mate, achieving the rank of Petty Officer Second Class. His commitment to service was a guiding principle throughout his life.

On May 1, 1966, LaVelle married the love of his life, Marjorie Parks, beginning a partnership that would span 60 devoted years. Together, they nurtured a beautiful family, raising their son Christopher and their daughters Angela and Terri with love and wisdom. LaVelle was a proud grandfather to six grandchildren: Logan, Lauren, Claire, Gracie, Paden, and Trenton, who were the light of his life.

Professionally, LaVelle dedicated 43 years as an Experimental Welder at Cessna, where his skills and expertise were highly valued. Upon retiring, he embraced his passion for building Cushman Motor Scooters, a hobby that brought him immense joy. As President of the Kansas Cushman Club and a member of the National Cushman Club, he shared his enthusiasm with others and created lasting friendships.

LaVelle's faith was a cornerstone of his life. As a devoted member of Faith & Grace Lutheran Church, he found solace and community in his spiritual journey. His ability to fix anything was legendary, and his love for his grandchildren and kittens was evident to all who knew him. LaVelle was a pillar of strength and guidance, providing unwavering support during life's challenges.

LaVelle is survived by his beloved wife Marjorie, his children Christopher and his wife Christenah, Angela and her husband Brandon Coe, and Terri and her husband Matt Ward. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren, his brother Francis and his wife Phyllis, and a host of friends and extended family who will miss him dearly.

A visitation with LaVelle's family will be held on July 23, 2026, 5-7pm, at Smith Family Mortuary, located at 1415 N. Rock Road, Derby, Kansas. Memorial services will be 2pm Friday, July 24, at Faith Lutheran Church, 214 S. Derby. Family and friends are invited to gather and honor the memory of a remarkable man who touched so many lives.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church in Derby, Kansas, in memory of LaVelle Haefner. His legacy of faith, love, and dedication will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him. May he rest in peace, wrapped in the arms of the angels.
