Laura Helen Murphy

DERBY - Laura Helen, "Laurie" Murphy, age 84, passed away Wednesday, December 2, 2015, following a brief illness. Visitation 2-6 PM Sunday with family receiving friends 2-4 PM, Smith Mortuary, 1415 N. Rock Rd., Derby. Recitation of the Rosary, 9:30 AM Monday, December 7, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM, St. Mary Catholic Church, 2300 E Meadowlark, Derby. Laurie was born February 23, 1931 in St. John, New Brunswick, Canada and later became a US citizen. She was a retired nurse, loving spouse, mother, mother-in-law and grandmother. She is preceded in death but now reunited with many loved ones, including her parents, two brothers, one sister and her loving husband, Jim. She is survived by and living in the hearts of many other loved ones, including her sons, Pete Murphy, of Wichita, and Michael Murphy (Molly) of Mint Hill, NC; daughters, Patty Pullman (Terry), of Wichita, and Kathy Neufeld (Larry), of Augusta; grandchildren, Shane and Blair Pullman, Clayton Neufeld, Katie, Shannon and Alex Murphy; and a great-grandson, Dimitri. Her loved ones will miss her greatly but are comforted knowing she's with the Lord. Due to her love of life and family, Laurie did not welcome death but neither did she fear death due to her strong faith. Her family takes comfort in that as well. Laurie was a true example of the Golden Rule and doing something good for someone every day. Memorials may be sent to St. Mary Catholic Church, 2300 E.
