Larry J. Richardson

February 16, 1946 — October 2, 2021

Larry Jack Richardson went to heaven 10/2/21.

He was born in Kansas City, MO 2/16/1946 to Donald and Hilda Richardson and passed away at Wesley Hospital in Wichita, KS. He was loved by many and will be sorely missed until we see him again.

Larry lived in Colony, KS and met his future wife and love of his life Linda (Colgin) in the third grade. Thus began a lifelong match that lasted for 55 years. They went on to have two children Bradford and Jennifer. Larry was always a family man and loved us dearly. After his graduation from Wichita State University, he worked as a petroleum geologist until his retirement from Pickerell Drilling company who he worked for 41 years.

Always willing to help his fellow man, Larry was involved in Hugh O Brien Youth Foundation, Junior Achievement at Derby High School. Larry helped found The Derby Running Club in the early 1980’s and directed the summer biathlon yearly. He was a past president and honorary member of the Kansas Geological Society, past president of the Kansas Geological Foundation, served on the advisory board of the Kansas Geological Survey as well as a member of the AAPG for about 50 years. He coached BB gun, was a faculty advisor then fund raiser for WSU shotgun team, was a member of the Air Capital Gun Club and enjoyed shooting sports. He was always generous with his time and never met a stranger. He was a true Christian in that he loved others as Christ does.

He was preceded in death by parents Donald and Hilda, sister Pamela and grandson Chaz Parrott.

He is survived by wife Linda, children Bradford (Rogelio) and Jennifer (Chris) Parrott. Grandchildren Kara and Brett (Alexus) Parrott, Kody, Keely and Kaden Richardson and beloved great- granddaughter Clementine who he always referred to as baby cakes. Brothers Mike(Pam),Steve(Peggy) and Kent (Donna) and sisters Jill(Mike) Wilkins and Judi Sims. Numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.


Funeral Services are 10am Wednesday 10/6/2021; visitation with family from 6-8pm on Tuesday 10/5/2021 all at Smith Mortuary, 1415 N Rock Rd in Derby, KS 67037. Interment will be at Colony Cemetery in Colony, KS.


Larry Richardson Shooting team scholarship at Wichita State University has been established as well as Larry Richardson memorial at Kansas Geological Foundation.
