Larry R. Powell, age 73, passed away December 25, 2022 from a valiant battle with cancer. He was born in Wichita, KS on November, 13, 1949 to Leonard and Erma Irene Powell (Hibbert). Early in his life, he met his wife (La Ronda) at Derby Pentecostal Holiness Church where their faith continued to be the foundation of their marriage. Larry also served in the United States Army where he was assigned to the 545th Ordnance Company. Larry was stationed at Muenster, Germany where he handled a sentry dog protecting the Army’s weapons cache. Soon after the military Larry settled in Mulvane, KS where he would be well-known for his business, Powell Heating & Cooling. It is also home to where he raised his 3 kids with La Ronda. He was an active servant in Harvest Church and dedicated his life to serving our Lord & Savior. In his spare time he greatly enjoyed traveling, taking to the road on his motorcycle, and most of all spending time with family.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Leonard Powell and Irene Powell; brother, Raymond Dean (a.k.a Joe); and nephew, Bradley Powell. He is survived by the love of his life and spouse of 52 years, La Ronda; two daughters, Shaneena Clark and La Netta Fox; and son, Lucas Powell. Along with his 7 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and brother, Stephen Powell.
A viewing will be held at Smith Mortuary of Derby, KS on Friday, Dec. 30th, 6:00-8:00pm. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Dec. 31st, at 2:00 pm at Harvest Church, 230 W Fernell St, Derby, KS 67037. The family would like to express thanks to Harry Hynes Hospice for their kindness and care.
