Larry Ted Norden

May 21, 1944 — February 4, 2026

Mulvane

Larry Ted Norden, 81, passed away peacefully at his home early Wednesday morning, February 4, 2026. Larry was born on May 21, 1944, in Wichita, Kansas to Ted and Doris Norden. He had two sisters, Patricia, who died at birth and his beloved sister, Donna. Larry and Donna shared a close bond and spent many hours playing games together. Being four years older gave Larry a competitive edge, but he always made sure Donna enjoyed the game, teaching her not only how to play but the value of good sportsmanship.

Growing up, Larry loved life on the farm-sleeping on the porch on warm nights; taking hikes in the pasture with his sister; and ending the adventure under the trestle bridge, listening to the trains. Larry especially loved spending time with his grandparents, helping on their farm. He packed his suitcase and was ready after the last day of school to head to the country.

Larry graduated from Mulvane High School in 1962 and married Billie Jean Dye on December 19, 1964. They spent 61 years together devoted to their children and grandchildren. Larry attended Kansas State University (a loyal fan) and later graduated from Wichita State University (a loyal fan) in May 1970. While raising three sons, Larry coached Little League baseball and football while his career was with Coleman/Evcon as a regional credit manager. He worked two years in Quebec, Canada at their snowmobile plant, Skiroule.

A faithful member of the Mulvane United Methodist Church he especially enjoyed volunteering at the church community hosted FROG Diner. Larry was known as a wonderful story teller. His stories were vivid, detailed and humorous - you could picture every moment and he always laughed as he told them. He loved playing games with his grandchildren and was often creative in his interpretation of the rules.Larry was witty, loyal, and loved being with his family. Larry was a devoted father and loved spending time with his sons by talking sports and watching games. One of his favorite games with his grandchildren was to be pretend to be asleep while the children tickled his nose, then 'suddenly waking' just to hear their giggles. His love of the outdoors never faded. He kept a cot in the backyard for the grandkids, where he and the grandchildren would sit together, gazing up at the stars. (Until he would remind them to watch out for the bears.) Larry is survived by his wife, Billie Jean; sons, Russell (Sharon), Curtis (Julie), Brad (Kim); sister, Donna (Phil) Dudley; grandsons, Jesse and Logan; and granddaughters, Taylor, Rylan, and Rachel.
