Lance is survived by his fiancee, Amalia (Molly) J. Madrid; parents, Dora Meairs Payne (Dan), Lance B. Roop Sr; siblings, Mavany Fowler (Michael Duncan), Hunter Payne (Taryn), and Shelby Childers (Jimmy), Steven Fowler; grandparents, Evelyn Meairs, Cheryl Roop, and Dean Payne (Laurie); and his fur babies, Layla, Blitz, and Robby.
We will remember Lance for his vibrant spirit in the face of adversity. He was dealt a tough deck, but, most of the time you wouldn’t know it. He has never met a stranger and people seemed to be drawn to him. He was always the guy in the wheel chair holding doors for someone else and never went through a held door without looking someone in the eye and saying thank you. He was never defined by his wheel chair, but by his strong willed spirit and determination.
From the time he was 3 years old sports were his favorite passion. Wrestling, baseball, basketball, Tae Kwan do, and of course, football. He played with a group of players for the Wichita Cowboys that would become life long friends. He also played baseball with the Wichita Rattlers. During high school he played with the NW Grizzlies and the Campus Colts. When he was unable to play traditional sports he gave the same effort for adaptive sports. Wheelchair basketball, track and field, and even had the opportunity to compete in singles and team bobsledding for the USA Para-Bobsled team. He traveled to Utah, Canada, Europe, and lastly Lake Placid New York.
His future plans included marrying the love of his life, Molly, having a family, and moving to Colorado to pursue business opportunities and continue his passion for adaptive sports. While those goals will never be met, he lived life to the fullest and that could be seen by all who met him.
