Kurt M Gumrukcu, affectionately known as Gus the Bus Driver, passed away on February 6, 2023, in Wichita, KS.
Kurt drove a school bus for the Wichita School District for over forty years and was number two in seniority.
Kurt was born on February 20, 1951 to Hasan and Patricia Gumrukcu in Lincoln, NE. Kurt had only one other sibling, his sister Gigi Anthony, of Burlingame, CA, where she lives with her husband Guy and their two adult children, Stephen and Grace who reside near-by in the Bay area.
He went to Presidio Junior High and then graduated from George Washington High School in 1968 in San Francisco. In 1975 he earned an Associates Degree in Applied Arts from San Diego Mesa College.
In 1979 Kurt began his career of driving school bus for the Wichita district. Although he never married, he had literally thousands of children that he loved and they loved him. From 1979, through the end of the 2019/2020 school year, Kurt only missed maybe two days of work! He took off the following year as he began his battle with cancer, but returned and completed the 2021/2022 school year.
Kurt was a humble man that sought little out of life except to be a servant to others and to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He exemplified that every day to the best of his ability. His smile and gentle nature will be missed by many.
Services will be held at the Botanical Gardens, in Wichita, KS at 11:00am in the Terrace Room on February 25th, 2023.
