Kenneth E. Redman

December 12, 1944 — January 7, 2024

Redman, Kenneth E., 79, passed away peacefully Sunday, January 7th, 2024.  He was born December 12th, 1944, to Frederick and Vera (Cole) Redman in Topeka, KS, the second of four sons. Visitation and Rosary are 7:30pm Friday, January 12, 2024, at Smith Mortuary in Derby, Funeral Mass is 10:30am Saturday, January 13, 2024, at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Graveside service will be 11:00 am Wednesday, January 17th, at the Maple Grove Cemetery, Dodge City, KS.


Ken was a graduate of Hayden HS and Washburn University in Topeka where he received a BBA with an accounting major. Following graduation, he worked for Office of Inspector General USDA as an auditor. He was soon called to serve in the military and joined the Air Force where he spent the last three years as a Missile Launch Officer at Warren AFB, Cheyenne WY. Prior to joining the service, he and Fran (Busch) were engaged. They were married April 22, 1967, in Dodge City, KS.


In 1971, Ken returned to KC where he continued his career with USDA. At that time, he received a degree in Computer Science from Johnson County CC. He continued his military career by serving ten years with the Air National Guard.


In 1978, Ken moved to Derby to work for Pizza Hut. When the HDQ was moved to Texas, Ken went to work for Slawson Oil. He worked as a Controller for Fleet Maintenance and BGA before going to work for Boeing as a Systems Analyst. He retired from Spirit Aerostructures in 2012. Ken enjoyed hunting and camping with his sons. His hobbies included metal sculptures and later Intarsia wood working.


He was active in numerous organizations including Government Accountants Assoc., Institute of Internal Auditors and the Knights of Columbus. He was instrumental in reinstating Boy Scout Troop 692. He continued to help as a volunteer on camp outs, with fundraisers and other activities. He also was active in his church, including serving on the finance committee and teaching high school religion classes.


Preceded in death by his parents and brother, Steve. Survivors include his wife, Frances; children, Jeffrey (Michelle) Redman; Jennifer (Jeremy) Jackson; Nicholas (Rebecca) Redman; siblings, Thomas (Dora) Redman, Richard (Alison) Redman; grandchildren, Kassy (Dylan) Simpson, Harriet Redman, Ethan and Kaitlin Jackson, June Redman; great-grandson, Silas Simpson and brother-in-law, Anthony (Arlene) Busch.
