Kenneth Edwin Campbell

Derby, Kansas - Campbell, Kenneth Edwin, passed away peacefully at 1:28 am on Wednesday, July 26, 2017. He was reunited with the love of his life, his wife of 65 years, Nylene. Ken was born April 20, 1928, in Aurora, MO, and was the son of the late Elmer Ida and Della Myrtle (Lawson) Campbell. He was born and raised in Aurora and was a 1945 graduate of Aurora High School. After graduation he served in the US Marine Corps. Ken started working for Phillips Petroleum Co. in Bartlesville, OK, and retired in 1985 after 37 years of service. He married Nylene Vandbergh on May 1, 1949, and lived a wonderful life based on deep love and admiration, faith, laughter and mutual respect, until her death on November 23, 2013. Ken was also preceded in death by his daughter, Janis Campbell; and his siblings, Truman, Virgil, Roy "Doc", Olena and Oral Campbell. Ken was a Coca Cola collector, a gardener, a project master, a handyman, a traveler and an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. He was involved in softball in some capacity for over 60 years, whether he was a player, a coach, or a spectator. Ken will be dearly missed by his daughters, Sherri Campbell Snoddy and Donna Gum; son-in-law, Bob Gum; grandchildren, Jeff Gum (Megan), Josh Campbell, Miranda Frohlich, Kyle Frohlich and Carly Gum; nephews and nieces, Roy Lee Campbell (Karen), Mike Campbell (Sandy), Caren Journagan (Bob), Candy Brandt (Steve), Mike Campbell (Laura) and Danny Campbell (Kathie). Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Friday, July 28, 2017 at First Presbyterian Church, with interment following at Maple Park Cemetery, both in Aurora, MO. A memorial has been established with Serenity Hospice, 9415 E. Harry, Ste. 302, Wichita, Kansas 67207. Arrangements by Crafton Cantrell Funeral Home.
