Kay Ellen Gregory

Kay Ellen Hawthorne Gregory passed from this life on October 16, 2026. 

Kay was born on May 30, 1943 to the late George and Georgia Hawthorne in St. Louis, Missouri. She graduated from Roosevelt High School in St. Louis, MO. She married, raised two wonderful children and began a career as a secretary. After her retirement, she enjoyed traveling, reading and gardening. She doted on her miniature toy poodles and enjoyed the company they provided in her last years of life.Kay was the kindest and most selfless person anyone ever had the pleasure of meeting. She was more concerned about others than herself even throughout her illness. Kay will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

In addition to her parents, Kay was predeceased by her husband, William Barry Gregory, her daughter, Kathy and her son Glen.

She is survived by her niece, Carolyn (Sean) Joynt of Middletown, DE. Her nephew, Andy (Michelle) Hawthorne of Chesapeake, VA. Her great-nieces Elizabeth, Katie, Megan, and Alexis and her great nephew Andrew, her brother Wayne (Carol) Hawthorne of Ballwin, MO and her best friend and caregiver Raine Daly and honorary grandson Brayden Daly.

The family wishes to thank the nurses and caregivers of Enhabit and Always There Senior Care for their loving care during Kay’s illness.

A visitation with the family will be at Smith Mortuary in Derby from 10:00-11:00am Thursday, October 22, 2026. A graveside service at Hillcrest Cemetery in Derby will immediately follow. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your favorite charity in Kay’s honor.
