Mauk (Robinson, Smith), Katherine P., 89, passed away Tuesday, June 24, 2014. She was born March 17, 1925 to Denzil and Pauline (Hartenbower) Smith in rural Mulvane, KS. After graduating from Douglass High School, she worked for SW Bell in Winfield, KS, where she met and fell in love with her first husband James Robert (Bob) Robinson. Later she worked for and retired from Boulevard State Bank. After Bob passed, she was married to Vernon Mauk until his death. Vernon and Katherine were very involved in the formation of the Douglass Senior Center and supported the Douglass Meals on Wheels program. She enjoyed helping others especially senior citizens. She was a very loving and caring person to those most in need. Katherine loved the outdoors especially family vacations to Colorado in her past years and more recently, visiting her Step Daughter in Montana. She was an avid birdwatcher and could identify several species. Additionally, Katherine loved to read and work crossword puzzles; her vocabulary seemed endless. She enjoyed reading the Bible and was read to by her life-long friend Georgia during her last days. She was preceded in death by her husbands, James Robinson and Vernon Mauk; sister, Roberta White; brother, Lee Smith; son Wayne Robinson and daughter-in-law, Sue Robinson; and son, Kent Robinson. Katherine is survived by her sister, Jean Weaver; brother, John Smith; and sons, Alan Robinson (Mary Gwen), and Steve Robinson (Kathy) and step daughter, Sally Mauk. She shared life and loved deeply many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Visitation: Sunday, 1 to 4 pm at Hilyard-Smith Funeral Home in Douglass. Funeral: 2 pm, Monday, June 30, 2014 at Douglass United Methodist Church. Interment to follow at Douglass Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Douglass United Methodist Church, 204 S. Willow St., Douglass, KS 67039.
