JV was a graduate of Wichita East High School, 1947, and Kansas State University, 1951. He served in the US Air Force during the Korean War as a Civil Engineer, and was retired after 30 years of civil service as Chief Civil Engineer at McConnell AFB. JV was born into a musical family. As such, he was instructed by his grandfather, Joseph Pizinger, in violin as a child, despite his desire to play trumpet like his Uncle Arthur. The violin studies didn’t last, but his love of music was exercised through church music ministry and singing in the choir most of his adult life. JV was a man of great Christian faith who taught Sunday school and led Bible studies throughout his life. He was part of the original five-man Kansas Community Navigator Ministry. Memorials have been established with Navigator Community Ministry, 1501 S. McLean, Wichita, KS 67213 and Calvary Baptist Church.
