June Nystrom

Edna June (Spurgin) Nystrom age 91, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, passed away peacefully December 10, 2016. June was born in Hebron, NE on June 29, 1925, to the late Orin Miggs Spurgin and Dollie Mae (Slagle) Spurgin. Her family later moved to Republic, KS. After graduating from high school at age 16, June moved to Wichita to attended Wichita Business College. She later worked for Employers Mutual Insurance, The Boeing Company and Avon. But her most rewarding job was that of wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and homemaker. She married her high school sweetheart and love of her life, Myron Nystrom, on December 8, 1945, and was married for almost 61 years before he passed away. They moved to Derby in 1959, where they raised 6 children. After Myron retired, they enjoyed many years of travel, dance and spending time with family and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by brothers Wesley and Glenn, sister Irene Graham, son-in-law Clarence Millheim. Survived by children Bob (Bridget) Nystrom and Pam (Dick) Lewis of Derby, KS; Terry (Pat) Nystrom of Marion, KS; Connie Millheim (Pat Holder) and Debbie (Dale) Maltbie of Wichita, KS; Dan (Kris) Nystrom of Libertyville, IA; her grandchildren Lisa, Kim, Ryan, Terry Leon, Tina, Amy, Kathy, Audrey, Aaron, Tyler, Scott, Michelle, Samantha, Caytlyn, Derek, Shannon; 22 great-grandchildren, sister Velma Garman, brother-in-law Eldon Graham, and many nieces and nephews. Visitation 1-8 pm Wednesday, December 14, with family receiving friends 6-8 pm at Smith Family Mortuary, 1415 N Rock Road, Derby KS. Funeral service 10:30 a.m. Thursday, December 15, at Woodlawn United Methodist Church, Derby KS. Memorials established with Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, 313 S Market, Wichita KS 67202 and Woodlawn United Methodist Church, 431 S Woodlawn, Derby, KS 67037.
