Josephine Elizabeth Mccabe Loden

Loden, Josephine Elizabeth McDonald McCabe, 85, passed away Monday, April 20, 2015. She was born September 29, 1929, in New Boston, Texas, to Charles and Lois McDonald. She leaves behind two sons, William McCabe, Derby, KS, and Tom McCabe, Virginia; sisters LaVerne Brown, Martha Jones, Lucille Chisum and Sandra Mixon, all of Texas; 13 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. Jo was a military wife and US Government civil servant. She traveled the world with her husband, Bill McCabe, and children. After Bill retired from Army active duty, they owned the JB Sun Ranch in Arkansas, raising Appaloosa horses. From there, they moved to Texas and toured the state living in many locales and ending up in Athens, Texas, while making new friends and enjoying their favorite pastimes of golfing fishing. Following Bill’s passing Jo continued with her hobbies. She met and married Charlie Loden, also a native Texan. They had nine wonderful years of life together enjoying family/friend gatherings, fishing and travels before Charlie passed in 2007. In 2008, Jo moved to Derby, Kansas to be near family. She made new friends in her Ladies Sunday School Class at Pleasantview Baptist and loved to be a part of family gatherings with the grandchildren. Jo spent several years at Maria Court in Mulvane, where she was named “Resident of the Month.” Most recently, she has lived at Clare Bridge Memory Care Center in Wichita, Kansas. We are so fortunate to have had Jo as a mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Jo had a heart the size of Texas, always ready to lend a helping hand or kind word. She had a wonderful, mischievous sense of humor, a sharp, brilliant mind as evidenced by her successful civil service career and subsequent businesses. Most of all, she was generous with her love and hugs. A memorial service for Jo will be held in Rogers, Arkansas. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established with the Alzheimer’s Foundation in Jo’s name.
