Joseph Lara

July 4, 1930 — October 8, 2014

Joseph Lara was born in Dodge City on July 4, 1930 and peacefully entered into rest on October 8, 2014. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Ida Lara; their four children, Anita Marie Lara, Christina Lara, Cecelia (Mick) Cayless, all of Wichita and Jeffery (Mickie) Lara of Edmond, OK. He was deeply loved by his 9 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; by Larry (Pam) Lara whom he loved like his son; and his brother Johnny (Elva) Lara. He is preceded in death by his parents, John Gaton and Elsie Simone Lara from Dodge City; brother Lawrence Lara; sister Margaret Simpson and grandchild Jordan Jeffrey Lara.

Joseph and Ida were married in 1952 and spent much of their life in Liberal. Joseph’s career was with Beechcraft where he served as a crew chief in Liberal and manager in Wichita, retiring with 30 years service. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a prolific community volunteer in organizations which he held dear. Those organizations include 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, Over 50 Club, Bel Aire Seniors and other Catholic organizations. He will long be remembered as an avid Liberal Redskin booster, active community volunteer, accomplished musician and loyal friend. He dearly loved to laugh and had a wonderful sense of humor. A Rosary will be held at Church of the Resurrection Catholic Church, 4910 N. Woodlawn, on Sunday at 5pm and funeral mass celebrating his life on Monday at 10am, also at the church. Viewing at the Rosary and prior to mass. Joseph was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and loyal friend. Words cannot begin to convey how deeply his loss will be felt. A memorial is established with Church of the Resurrection Catholic Church and School.
