John Earl Ray

John Earl Ray, Age 83, of Derby, KS passed away peacefully on December 10, 2014. Funeral Service will be held at Pleasantview Baptist Church in Derby on Monday December 15, 2014 at 10:00am. Graveside Service will immediately follow at El Paso Cemetery, Derby. Visitation will be at Smith Mortuary in Derby on Sunday December 14 from 1:00-6:00pm with family present from 4:00-6:00pm. John was born in Stark City, MO to Frank and Missouri Ray on December 13, 1930. He graduated from Fairview High School, Fairview, MO, where he met his future wife. John married Jane Ann Marion on July 3, 1951; they were married for 63 years. John served in the US Marine Corps from 1951 to 1953. John was very patriotic and proud to have had the opportunity to serve his country. John worked at Boeing in several capacities for more than 42 years. During his time with Boeing, John and family lived in Massachusetts, California, and Kansas, but always considered Derby home. John enjoyed watching sports, following KU, spending time with family, playing at ‘The Farm’, driving for Enterprise, and being an active member of Pleasantview Baptist Church. Survivors include Wife, Jane Ray of the Home; Son Jeff Ray and Wife Susan of Leawood, KS; Son Kevin Ray and Wife Brandy of Shawnee, KS; Grandson Austin Ray and Wife, Kristen of Olathe, KS; Sister Ruby Cosby of Cullison, KS; and a host of family and friends. John was preceded in death by his Parents Frank and Missouri Ray, Brothers Claude and Fred; and Sisters Gladys, Opal, and Ethel.
