John Melick

John Loyd Melick, age 87, retired heavy equipment operator, passed away Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at Derby Assisted Living. Visitation 2 pm – 8 pm Friday, January 31, with family receiving friends 5-7 pm, funeral service 10 am Saturday, February 1, both at Smith Mortuary, 1415 N. Rock Rd., Derby. John was born December 30, 1937 in Abilene, KS, to Aaron John Melick and Mary Elizabeth (Cairns) Melick. He married Nita Lavon Young on May 18, 1958, in Wichita, KS. He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Jerry Melick and his great-grandson, Isaac. John is survived by his wife, Nita; his children, Kathy Rogers, Cindy Haseley (Stephen), Lori Hladik (Chris), John Melick (Sonya); grandchildren, Ashley, Nicole (Adam), Taylor (Will), Jaman (Hannah), Kelsey (Matt), Aaron, Austin, KaSandra and Kylee (Jake); step-grandchildren, Stephanie (Peter) and Peter; 8 great-grandchildren and 3 great step-grandchildren; and his dog child, Miley. Memorials has been established with Traditions Health Hospice, 3221 N Toben St #200, Wichita, KS 67226 and/or the Alzheimer's Association. 535 W Douglas Ave #150, Wichita, KS 67213.
