It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of John Marten, who departed this life on June 20th, 2025 at the age of 83. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend.
Born on March 5th, 1942 in Winfield, KS. John was the son of Daniel F. and Helen Marie Marten. He grew up in Winfield, KS and graduated from Ark City Junior College (Cowley) with an Associate of Arts degree.
John dedicated his life to The Kansas Highway Patrol, serving for 27 years and working his way up to Captain. After the KHP, Jack enjoyed his role as a public-school bus driver for 10 years.
John is survived by his wife, Donna, sons, Steven (Kirstie) Marten and Dennis (Kelly) Marten, his grandchildren, Joseph (Tabitha) Marten, Sarah Marten, Benjamin (Macy) Marten, and Shelby (Riley) Suther, great-grandchildren, Genevieve, Blakely, Brayden, Brody, Arabella, Nash, and John, and his sisters, Sandy Lyons and Janice Kamen. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, June 26th at 2pm at Smith Family Mortuary at 1415 N. Rock Road in Derby, KS. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Kansas Humane Society in John’s memory.
John was loved by many and friends with all.
