John Eddy Elliott

John Eddy Elliott, called Jack, 75, passed away quietly on May 21, 2025 after a prolonged time of health issues. At the time of his death he was living with his wife and many cats in Wichita, Kansas. During his final years of his life, he enjoyed sitting with his wife watching the wonders of nature and the antics of the wild life in his own backyard.

Born to Juanita Jane Trout Elliott and Roy Lee Elliott on October 23, 1949 in Normal, Illinois, Jack was the second born of their five children. He held a special place in each of his sibling’s hearts. I, Janet, will always appreciate the talks we had during the last months of his life. During one of the talks, I told Jack that I am the host of a podcast called The Creative Mind with Janet Nelsen. He jumped on broad and offered to be a guest on the show. During the recording of the podcast, I probed and found out a lot of things about how my brother thought that I hadn’t been aware of. (The podcast will be on Youtube and Facebook June 5th for anyone to enjoy.)

He graduated from East High School in Wichita, Kansas in 1967. Although Jack did not acquire further education, he was a natural, creative engineer working on different types of projects all of his life.

He was very intelligent, and when feasible, carried on debates with his brothers—especially Allen. His quick mind and his choice to be widely read made him good at stretching other peoples thinking. However, once he had others convinced of one position, Jack would switch sides.

Jack’s quirky sense of humor meant he taught his youngest sister, Janet, to say “yes” before she learned to say “no.”

Flying planes and parachuting are things he loved. One of the times he shared that love was when he took his mom, Jane, and his sister, Debbie, parachuting. His mom still remembered years later how scared she was, but how glad she was she did it.

Being the son of a music teacher, Jack also loved music. He mastered a number of musical instruments and played gigs in and around Wichita for years. Accordingly, Jack cherished the care and attention to detail spent by his brother David and nephew Buddy to refurbish his guitar.

Jack always had a strong work ethic that he attributed to his parents. He worked for Textron as an NC Tech up until the time of his death. He did not like being at home and not being able to work even when his health was declining.

He is survived by his wife Lena Elliott and his adopted son Stanislav Sinitsyn. He won the heart of his Russian bride through writing poignant letters. He was really proud of his wife and son and their accomplishments.

Jack was also survived by Allen Elliott and Jamie watts, David Elliott, Deborah Elliott, and Janet and Rick Nelsen, 12 nieces and nephews and their families. His passing leaves a deep hole in our hearts.

The memorial will be held at the Smith Family Mortuary, 1415 N Rock Rd, Derby, KS 67037, June 4, at 11:00 CST. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Mulvane Animal Clinic.
