John Alan Booth, 98, a resident of Peck, Kansas, passed away October 2, 2026. John was born December 31, 1927 south of Waco in Sedgwick County, to LeeRoy Nelson and Dora Agnes (Williams) Booth. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife of 62 years, Judith June (Penner) Booth; and two sisters Roberta Kimble and Kay Turkle.
He is survived by three children Stephen Duane (Debbi) of Garland, TX, Matthew Alan (Gina) of Marble Falls, AR, and Rhonda Jean (Cliff) McCormick of Peck; five grandchildren, Heather (Thomas) Newsom, of Kingwood, TX, Craig (Cyndi) Booth of Lone Oak, TX, Jeremy Booth of Fayetteville, AR, Bryce (Jennifer) McCormick of Marietta, GA, and Abel (Misty) Booth of Springfield, MO; seven great-grandchildren, Ethan (Gabby), Rachel and Emily Newsom, Blake and Benjamin Booth, and Samuel and Olivia McCormick; along with many nieces and nephews.
In recent years John was best known locally as a frequent and popular dance partner at the senior citizen dances held at community centers around Wichita. John had nearly a century of local history as he lived on property that had been in his family for over 150 years. For his first eight grades he attended Prairie Center District 93, a nearby one room rural school. He graduated from Mulvane High School in 1945. He was sworn into the Navy in 1946 and served at Pearl Harbor through 1948. Over the years he was an auctioneer, raised sheep, and grew Australian pines. John's other jobs included selling vacuums, driving a taxi, and working in Michigan for Fischer Body, Oldsmobile and Chevrolet. He worked for Boeing in both Wichita and Seattle; he also worked for Cessna. In retirement he and Judy built a self-designed steel frame home on the family property. John was also known for his slalom water skiing skills at Table Rock Lake in Missouri, which he did until his late sixties.
John was a long-time member of the Mulvane United Methodist Church and the Mulvane Lions Club. He was a 33 degree (Blue Lodge) Mason in Mulvane and a member of the Shriners since 1950.
Visitation is 5:00 to 7:00 pm, Thursday, October 8, 2026 at Smith Family Mortuary, 501 SE Louis Blvd, in Mulvane. Funeral service is 10:00 am Friday October 9, 2026 at Mulvane United Methodist Church, 107 S Central Ave, Mulvane, with burial in the family plot at Waco Cemetery, Haysville, Kansas.
