JM Barrett, of Haysville, KS, died April 24, 2021, peacefully with his wife by his side.
JM was born on September 6th, 1933, in Naples, OK, to Elmer and Mary Barrett. JM was a family man, married to his wife, Anita, for 66 years. JM served in the Army for two years, including service in the Korean War, and was proud to have served his country. He moved from Oklahoma to Kansas with his wife in 1956 where they established their family with two beautiful daughters. He worked for many years at Vulcan and was well-known for his work ethic. JM, or “Papa”, loved and was well-loved by his family, and he especially doted on his great-grandchildren during his later years in life. It wasn’t uncommon to see him sitting on the floor playing ball, watching endless amounts of sporting events, or helping in his daughter and granddaughters’ classrooms. As much as he was loved, he will be missed.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Anita; daughters Diana Beck and Lynette Shufelberger (Scott), grandchildren Cara (Norris) and Lauren (Zac), and great-grandchildren Emma, Owen, Stella, Davis, and Jett; sisters Marilyn Darnell (Albert), Wanda McMasters, and Sue Alford.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Mary Barrett and brother Larry Barrett.
