Jimmy L. Murray

April 5, 1933 — December 11, 2024

Jimmy "Jim" Lee Murray, age 91, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 11, 2024. Born on April 5, 1933, in Murray, Arkansas, to John and Amanda Murray. Jim carried a deep love for his hometown throughout his life.

A proud veteran, Jim served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, working as a tank driver. After his service, he and his beloved wife, Mildred, moved their family to Wichita, Kansas, where they built a life together until their passing.

Jim retired from Vulcan Chemicals after 30 years of dedicated service. In his retirement, he remained active and engaged as a member of the Cornerstone Church of God, where he selflessly shared his handyman skills to support the church and its community.

A man of many stories, Jim will be remembered for his quick wit, stubborn determination, captivating storytelling, and quiet strength.

A compassionate soul, Jim had a special place in his heart for animals, particularly stray cats, which he lovingly took under his care, earning him a reputation as their devoted keeper.

Jim was preceded in death by his cherished wife, Mildred. He is survived by his sons, Edwin (Ed) Murray and Darren Murray, as well as his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and extended family, who will carry forward his legacy of love, laughter, and perseverance.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Smith Mortuary. A service to celebrate Jim’s life will be held at Cornerstone Church of God in Wichita at a date yet to be determined. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Cornerstone Church of God or WAAL (Wichita Animal Action League) in Jim’s honor.

May he rest in eternal peace.
