Jerry Duane Cain

Jerry Duane Cain, 89, passed away on September 5, 2026, at home, surrounded by his family.He was born on December 18, 1936, in Wichita, Kansas, Jerry was the beloved son of the late Wayne R. and Roszella Cain.

Growing up a true "farm boy," Jerry loved recounting stories of his childhood. Long before and after his school days in Clearwater, Kansas, where he graduated, he was out in the fields—driving the tractor, tending to peach orchards, caring for watermelons and cantaloupes,or milking the cows.

In 1954, Jerry proudly answered the call to serve his country by joining the United States Marine Corps, spending three years stationed in Japan. Upon returning home to the States, Jerry met the love of his life, Karen F. Ingle. After a whirlwind six-month courtship, they were married onJanuary 19, 1958, in Wichita, Kansas. Their extraordinary marriage spanned 67 years of utter and complete devotion, during which they built a warm home and raised three children: Doug,Kathy, and Lori.

Jerry served his community early on as a reserve officer for the Haysville Police Department before launching a long career in the grocery business. He worked as a meat butcher and lateras a sales representative for Fleming Foods until 1984. That year, Jerry pursued his true passion by purchasing his first grocery store, Hometown Foods in Haysville. He cherished the opportunity to serve and support his hometown. In 1985, he expanded his passion by opening Haven Foodliner in Haven, Kansas. Haven quickly became a second home to him; he threw himself into the community, hosting annual Halloween costume contests and crafting holiday gift baskets for local families.

Jerry will always be remembered for his playful teasing, his wildly entertaining stories, his unfailing work ethic, and his unwavering willingness to drop everything—day or night—to lend a helping hand to family, friends, or neighbors.

In his later years, as dementia gradually robbed him of his strength and stamina, it also revealed a softness that his family deeply treasured. During these final years, Jerry taught those around him the power of patience, allowing his family the privilege of returning a small measure of the selfless care and service he had shown them all his life.

Jerry was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 67 years, Karen F. Cain, and his parents,Wayne R. and Roszella Cain, brother Larry Cain, sister Susan Vonderwall, son-in-law Grant McDaniel.

He is survived by his children, Doug and Nancy Cain, Katherine McDaniel and Mike Branam, Lori and Scott Jackson all from Haysville, KS, Shawn Craig of Springdale, AR; grandchildren, Michael (Hang) of Wichita, Christopher(Nicki), Jacob (Jen), of Haysville, Miranda (Kenneth) of Wichita, Megan,Sydney and Sam all of Haysville, KS; 6 great-grandchildren. His brother, Ron (Diana) Cain ofHaysville, KS, brother-in-law Frank Vonderwall of Haysville, sister-in-law Lois Cain of Yukon,OK, sister-in-law Pat (David) Palmer of Matlock, WA.

Memorial Service will be held on September 18th at 10:00 am at Haysville United Methodist Church 601 E Grand Ave, Haysville, KS 67060. Interment to follow at Greenwood Cemetery, 6231 W 47th St. S Wichita, KS
