Jerry L. Buchanan, 72, passed away Thursday, October 24, 2013. A memorial gathering will be held from 1-3pm, Tuesday, October 29, at Smith Family Mortuary, 1415 N. Rock Rd., Derby. A second celebration of life will be held in Dodge City at a later date. Jerry was born September 3, 1941 in Carthage, Missouri. He graduated from Webb City High School in 1959, and earned his associate's degree from Joplin Junior College. He went on to serve in the Army Reserves stationed at Ft. Ord in California and the Missouri National Guard. On Valentine's Day 1969, Jerry married Sandy Goff. He enjoyed playing golf and watching KU basketball. Jerry and Sandy relocated from Dodge City to Derby in 2005, where he enjoyed watching his grandchildren grow and spending time with his family. Jerry was a retired advertising representative for High Plains Journal in Dodge City and a high school football referee. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Buchanan and Helen Morris, and brother Michael Morris. Survived by his wife, Sandy; children, Matthew (Jill) Buchanan and Leslee (Doug) Johnson; grandchildren, Reece and Ty Johnson and Jill's daughter, Caroline Manion; brothers, John, Keith and Bob Morris. Friends are encouraged to contribute to the established memorials in lieu of flowers: Woodlawn United Methodist Church, 431 S.
