Wichita – Janet R. Jensen,
66, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, November 7th, 2024. She was born February 6th, 1958 to John Cox Jr. and Evelyn Joan Cox (Knight) in Fredonia, Kansas.
Janet married Scott Jensen on February 15th, 2002 in Wichita. Janet graduated from Wichita High School South in 1976. Following graduation Janet entered cosmetology school and owned a beauty shop in her home for 30 plus years. Janet graduated from Wichita State University in 1998 and began a 2nd career with the Barton School of Business as a Senior Student Success Specialist. She retired from Wichita State University after nearly 25 years in December 2022.
When Janet’s children were in school, she loved volunteering with the PTA and helping with the annual fun nights. She had a passion for girl scouts and served many years as a leader. In Janet’s free time she enjoyed sewing clothes and making costumes, feeding her fish in the backyard pond and caring for her succulents. Baking was a specialty for Janet, especially her birthday cakes, cinnamon rolls and crescent rolls. Lastly, Janet will be most remembered for her love of lighthouses.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Evelyn Cox and father-in-law James (Jim) Jensen.
Janet is survived by her husband, Scott Jensen; children, Dedra (Joshua) Straka, Derrick (Seri) Metzger, Dustin Metzger; step-son, Michael (Ronalyn) Jensen; brother, Johnny (Betty) Cox; grandchildren, Adrienne, Dominic, Julienne, Emmalyn, Trevor, Samantha, Johnathon, Aurora and William; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins; mother-in-law Jacqueline Jensen.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday November 12th, 2024 at 6:00 pm, with a viewing to follow until 8:00 pm at Culbertson-Smith Mortuary, 115 South Seneca Wichita, Kansas 67213.
Interment: 10:00 am, Wednesday, November 13th, 2024 at South Lawn Cemetery, Severy, Kansas.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to The Barton School of Business at Wichita State University.
